BOARD MEMBER ELECTIONS
Board Member Elections
USD 231 is served by seven Board members representing three board districts (two members each) plus one at-large position. Elections are held in odd-numbered years. Board members are elected to four-year terms. See a map of Board member districts.
Board Member Positions 1, 2, 3, and 7 (At-Large) were elected in November 2023.
Board Member Positions 4, 5, and 6 will be elected in November 2025.
Terms of office begin on the second Monday in January following the election.
If a primary election is held, voters vote only for the board member position in which they live and for the at-large position.
Voters within the school district voted for all positions during the General Election.
The Johnson County Election Office can provide information for individuals interested in filing for the school board election. Boundaries can be found here.

Few roles are more important in local communities than that of a school board member. Elected by their neighbors and peers, board members play a critical role in the success of a school district, its students, and its staff. The Kansas Association of School Boards prepared a resource guide for candidates.
Legal control of Unified School District No. 231 is vested in the seven-member Board of Education, elected to staggered four-year terms. Any registered voter residing within the school district's boundary lines may run for election to the board. Six board members are elected to represent one of three geographic areas within USD 231. Each member must reside within those districts. The seventh position is designated at-large. School board elections are held every two years in November.
